Paris - Arc de Triomphe & Champs Elysees

At the top of the Champs Elysees is the well known arch of triumph. The arch was built to honour the many soldiers who fought for France during the Napoleon wars. Napoleon promised his soldiers that they would one day walk under the arch of triumph, and ordered the construction of the arch in 1806. He could never keep his promise to his soldiers, as he was defeated in 1815, he died in 1821 and the Arc de Triomphe was only finished in 1836. The names of French generals and the battles in which they fought is inscribed on the walls of the monument. Napoleon’s body passed under this monument in 1840 when it was carried to its final resting place.

Champs Elysees
Probably the most famous avenue in the world, the Champs Elysees is known for its restaurants and fashion stores. The name Champs Elysees, according to Greek Mythology, is the place where heroes go after their death This also happens to be the place where the Tour de France comes to an end.
