This old fishing village on the Ijsselmeer is just one of those places where you feel good and you don't know why. Boats on the harbour, cosy little restaurants all around and friendly locals makes Volendam the little gem that it is. You might even spot some woman in the traditional Dutch clothing. Zaanse Schans
Zaanse Schans is a traditional windmill village on the river Zaan. Of all the old industrial windmills built in this area in 1590 only thirteen remain. Six of them can be found in Zaanse Schans. Aside from the beautiful old mils, one can also buy traditional crafts in Zaanse Schans or even see how the Dutch have been making their wooden shoes over centuries. Make sure to take a bit of spare cash, as you will definitely want to buy a sovenier or two at Zaanse Schans.
